Palliative Care Consultant
Summary
Responsible to improves the quality of life of patients and their families facing the problems associated with life-threatening illness, through the prevention and relief of suffering by means of early identification, assessment and treatment of pain and other problems, physical, psychological and spiritual.
Education/Qualifications Required:
- Basic medical degree from recognized institution
- Post-qualification certification
- Qualification Source from: Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand.
- UK and Ireland: GMC/CCST Specialist Register
- Australia and New Zealand: Fellowship from the Royal College (FRACP)
- Western Europe: Equivalent certification to the above
- Qualification Source from: Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand.
Experience Post-Qualifications:
- Minimum Three (3) years after board/equivalent certification in Ireland, UK, Australia, New Zealand and France (DES).
- Minimum Five (5) years after board/equivalent certification in Spain, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, Norway, Austria, Netherlands, Greece and France (DIS).
License:
Current and in a Good Standing Medical License to practice in country of residence.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Complies and adheres to the Medical Staff Bylaws, Code of Medical Ethics, Rules and Regulations of the Medical Staff, departmental and clinical policies, procedures and objectives; continuous quality improvements objectives, safety, environmental and infection control standards; and abide by the rules and regulations of the College of Medicine.
- Provides the highest attainable standard of medical care for his/her patients.
- Carries out full range of inpatient and outpatient clinical duties as assigned by the Chairman of the department in accordance with individually approved clinical privileges.
- Reviews, examines, diagnose, treats and refers patients by conducting interviews, performing physical examination; creating, updating and studying patients’ medical records.
- Collects, records, and maintains patient information and documentation such as medical history, reports, and examination results.
- Performs and carries out on-call duties within a reasonable period of time as by the department.
- Protects patients and colleagues by promoting awareness and adhering to infection control policies and standard protocols.
- Mentors and teaches staff, trainees and students for training and education purposes
- Participates in the improvement of quality of patient care (Quality Management Program, Quality Assessment Improvement Program) as required.
- Participates in and actively supports research projects and activities.
- Deputizes for his/her superior as required and shares the coverage workload in his/her specialty during the absence of equivalent in an assignment.
- Undertakes continuous medical education as required by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties and KAMC to improve clinical expertise and develops professional and technical medical knowledge.
- Maintains awareness of new medical techniques, medications and medical technologies.
- Participates in the forward planning and implementation for further development of department and assists in updating protocols and principles of medical practices as appropriate
- Participates in the Major Disaster Plan of KAMC, as indicated.
- Performs multiple aspects of scope of practice and adheres to clinical privileges of the department as determined by KAMC
- Builds and maintains a harmonious relationship with their patients and establish a professional environment with other health care members and other physicians
- Serves in KAMC Committees as requested.
- Writes an official delegation of all responsibilities and assignments prior to leave/vacation.
