Summary

Within the mission, vision, and values of Saudi Arabian National Guard – Health Affairs, to provide patient care; education and training for Associate Consultants, Assistant Consultants and Orthopedics  Residents, Medicine residents, and National Guard physicians; supervise clinics, monitor quality improvement program; undertake clinical research; self-education and participate in on-call schedule of the Division of Orthopedics

Education / Qualification Required:

  1. Basic medical degree from recognized institution
  2. Post-qualification certification
    • Qualification Source from: North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand.  
      • USA: The American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS)
      • Canada: Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Certificate (RCPS-C)
      • UK and Ireland: GMC/CCST Specialist Register
      • Australia and New Zealand: Fellowship from the Royal College (FRACP)
      • Western Europe: Equivalent certification to the above

Experience Post-Qualifications:

  • Minimum Seven (7) years experience out of which a minimum of Two (2) years’ experience in a tertiary care center in Orthopedic Surgery after certification

License:

  • Current and in a Good Standing Medical License to practice in country of residence.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • He is governed by the responsibilities outlined in the Medical Staff Bylaws.
  • Provide and promote a high standard quality of care in orthopedic surgery.
  • Operate in the OR within his approved privileges.
  • Physically present in the OR to assess and supervise his assistant to conduct surgery when his assistant has no approved privileges to carry out the procedure under the category of Solo in the privileges form.
  • Expect to be present in the working vicinity during normal working hours.
  • To be available for contact at any time while in town.
  • Supervise the clinical, administrative and academic activities of members in the Division of Orthopedic Surgery.
  • Chair all divisional meetings and forward copies of the minutes to the Chairman, Department of Surgery.
  • Attend and participate in the Department of Surgery staff meetings.
  • Make recommendations to the Chairman, Department of Surgery regarding the provisions of suitable, modem and functional equipment relevant to the service provided.
  • Carry out administrative duties for the Division of Orthopedic Surgery as assigned by the Chairman, Department of Surgery, Executive Director, Medical Services and/or higher authorities.
  • Continuously upgrade and maintain the academic requirements, as well as skills by actively participating in the continuous medical education program in the hospital.
  • Review credentials and make recommendations to the Chairman, Department of Surgery regarding appointment of new staff members to the Division of Orthopedic Surgery.
  • To review all the candidate’s request for privileges ensuring that all privileges given to the members in the Division of Orthopedic Surgery are according to their approved training, certification, to the level of their job description and category (as outlined in the table of the privileging form). The respective physician and Section Head will discuss any discrepancies that might arise to meet a mutual agreement (according to certification and classification) and sign the privileging form before submitting it to the Chairman for final approval. To inform and review all privileges that have been approved by the MCP&PC with the respective physician, updating as necessary.
  • Participate in preparation of the annual report for the Division of Orthopedic Surgery to the Chairman, Department of Surgery.
  • Serve on medical staff committees as directed by the Chairman, Department of Surgery and/or the Executive Director, Medical Services, CR and/or higher authorities.
  • Participate in training and education of junior staff.
  • Attend and participate in all Division of Orthopedic Surgery academic activities.
  • Responsible for the monthly division on call schedule.
  • Encourage members in the Division of Orthopedic Surgery to undertake research activities.
  • Actively involved and participate in the ongoing quality management program.
  • Responsible for submitting approved TRI by the Chairman, to block his clinic or provide approved coverage by completing the clinic blocking form through the proper chain of command and blocking the OR prior to submitting the TRA to the Chairman for final approval. Ensure approval of proper TRA by the Chairman before going on leave
  • Meet the CME requirements of Saudi specialization.
  • Maintain the spirit of teamwork in the Division of Orthopedic Surgery
