Education / Qualification Required:

  1. Basic medical degree from recognized institution
  2. Post-qualification certification
    • Qualification Source from: North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand.  
      • USA: The American Board of Infectious Diseases (ABID)
      • Fellowship in Infection Prevention & Control — Preferred
        Fellowship in Antimicrobial Stewardship Program — Preferred
      • Canada: Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Certificate  (FRCPC – Infectious Diseases )
      • UK and Ireland: CCT/CCST Specialist Register – Infectious Diseases
      • Australia and New Zealand: Fellowship from the Royal College – Infectious Diseases (FRACP)
      • Western Europe: Equivalent certification to the above

Experience Post-Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two (2) years  experience in tertiary care center in the appropriate specialty after certification is a MUST
  • Minimum Three (3) years after board / equivalence certification in USA, Canada, Ireland, UK, Australia, New Zealand and France (DES).
  • Minimum Five (5) years after board / equivalence certification in Spain, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, Norway, Austria, Netherlands, Greece and France (DIS).

License:

  • Current and in a Good Standing Medical License to practice in country of residence.
  • Current BLS/ACLS Certificate

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assess and supervise the hospital organization’s infection prevention and control program activities, focusing on infectious diseases, to identify issues, set priorities, and improve outcomes.
  • Conduct surveillance activities, employee health programs, education initiatives, regulatory compliance reviews, and process observations.
  • Identify high-risk areas, including infectious diseases concerns, and develop prevention strategies.
  • Evaluate high-risk care processes such as disinfection, sterilization, dialysis, and laundry management.
  • Review, evaluate, and update departmental policies related to infection control and infectious diseases.
  • Develop or revise critical documents, including risk assessments, exposure control plans, and waterborne pathogen management plans.
  • Mentor new infection control personnel, emphasizing infectious diseases practices.
  • Assist with managing outbreaks and other infectious diseases-related incidents.
  • Collaborate with team members to create and evaluate competencies in infection prevention and control.
  • Support the development of infection prevention plans and program activities, including disease-specific concerns and isolation protocols.
  • Provide education and training on infection prevention and infectious diseases protocols to staff and team members.
  • Cover duty service for infectious diseases rounds and consultations.
  • Provide outpatient and inpatient infectious diseases consultations as per on-call rotations.
  • Supervise and mentor fellows and residents in infectious diseases, offering education and feedback.
  • Participate in the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program, planning and evaluating studies on prescribing patterns and antibiotic resistance.
  • Conduct and monitor Antimicrobial Stewardship activities, maintaining compliance with guidelines and regulations.
  • Attend and contribute to subcommittee meetings, implementing infectious diseases stewardship strategies.
  • Perform onsite assessments to evaluate infectious diseases stewardship practices and provide education on antibiotic stewardship.
  • Collaborate with departments such as Pharmacy, Microbiology, Hospital Epidemiology, and IT to enhance infectious diseases programs.
