Summary

Responsible for providing  professional antenatal care, performs uncomplicated deliveries, and offers postnatal care. The role includes delivering nursing care in Maternal and Child Care areas or the Emergency Department (A&E) following established standards and practices. The Midwife assumes a leadership role in ensuring high-quality patient care and safety.

 

Education / Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Nursing

Experience:

  • Experience from North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand is a must.
  • Minimum Three (3) years of recent experience as an Registered Midwife in a mid- to large-sized acute-care/tertiary hospital setting

License/Registration 

  • License from North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand is a must.
  • Current and in good Standing  License to practice in country of residence
  • Current BLS/ACLS required

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide accurate and complete information through verbal and written reports as per hospital guidelines.
  • Apply the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation) to deliver patient care in line with hospital policies and standards.
  • Monitor normal pregnancies and perform necessary examinations to track development.
  • Perform a range of supportive and technical midwifery tasks using appropriate equipment, supplies, and treatments.
  • Assist mothers during labor and monitor fetal conditions using clinical and technical methods.
  • Conduct uncomplicated, spontaneous deliveries and perform episiotomies when required.
  • Recognize high-risk pregnancies and respond appropriately by referring cases to a physician during emergencies.
  • Stabilize mothers and/or newborns in critical situations pending physician arrival.
  • Identify warning signs of abnormalities in the mother or infant and take necessary actions, informing the midwife-in-charge or doctor.
  • Attend operating rooms to oversee care for cesarian patients.
  • Assist in the care and resuscitation of newborns in collaboration with pediatricians and nursing staff.
  • Provide education to patients about pregnancy, childbirth, and infant care, ensuring understanding and active participation.
  • Engage in unit activities such as patient care conferences, staff orientation, continuing education, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to service improvement through participation in special projects and offering suggestions.
  • Exercise professional behavior and accountability as a Registered Midwife.
  • Uphold patient rights, safety, and confidentiality at all times.
