Summary

The Chairman will oversee the overall management of the department, advocating for departmental interests, and performing clinical duties as necessary. This leadership role demands a blend of clinical expertise and administrative acumen, ensuring the department operates at the highest standards of quality and efficiency.

Education and Qualifications

  • Basic medical degree from a recognized institution.
  • Post-qualification certification.
  • Qualification sources accepted from North America, Western Europe, Australia, or New Zealand:
    • USA: The American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS)
    • Canada: Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Certificate (RCPS-C)

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of clinical experience post-certification in a subspecialty.
  • At least three (3) to five (5) years in a leadership role, demonstrating administrative capacity and departmental oversight.
  • Post-training experience in North America, Western Europe, Australia, or New Zealand is essential.

Licensing

  • Current and in good standing medical license to practice in the country of residence.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Perform clinical duties and actively engage in clinical practice.
  • Collaborate with Nursing, Clinical Services, Administration, and Support Services to provide optimal patient care.

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement strategic plans, goals, and objectives for the department, aligned with the overall strategic plan of Medical Affairs.
  • Organize, supervise, monitor, and maintain medical and clinical services and programs, ensuring high-quality patient care and ethical practices.
  • Oversee the selection, recruitment, and retention of competent professional staff through effective credentialing, review of privileges, and staff assessments.
  • Prepare and manage the annual operating and capital equipment budgets for the department, ensuring efficient and cost-effective operations.
  • Conduct annual evaluations of department staff, making recommendations for performance bonuses, professional leave, and other incentives based on evaluation and appraisal.
  • Ensure continuous quality improvement and adherence to quality/performance improvement programs.
  • Establish key performance and clinical indicators, benchmarking departmental outcomes with international standards.
  • Promote activities that enhance community involvement and responsibility.

Research and Education Responsibilities:

  • Promote and support medical research initiatives within the department.
  • Advocate for postgraduate training programs, continuing medical education, and other educational activities.
  • Mentor and train junior staff, trainees, and medical students, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development.

Other Duties:

  • Enforce and monitor adherence to Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations, and Hospital policies and procedures.
  • Act as the department’s representative in organizational and external communications.
  • Participate in the Medical Advisory Council and contribute to institutional development.
