Summary
Sub-specialty of obstetrics & gynecology with strong experience in High Risk Fetomaternal area, responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of expectant mothers and their unborn babies.
Education/Qualification:
- Basic medical degree from recognized institution
- Post-qualification certification
- Qualification Source from: North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand.
- USA: American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS)
- Canada: Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Certificate (FRCPC)
- UK and Ireland: GMC/CCST Specialist Register
- Australia and New Zealand: Fellowship from the Royal College (FRACP)
- Qualification Source from: North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand.
Experience:
- Minimum 2 years current practice in area of specialty after obtained any of the above qualifications in USA, Canada, Ireland, United Kingdom, Australia or New Zealand
License:
Current and in a Good Standing Medical License to practice in country of residence.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supports, implements, and follows all hospital, departmental and divisional initiatives, policies and procedures
- Helps lead and implement the organization’s performance management system, including peer review and the productivity and utilization review processes
- Participates in the organization’s performance management system, including peer review and the productivity and utilization review processes
- Assists with scheduling and supports the Division Chief in ensuring that adequate medical coverage is provided within the Division at all times
- Attends Divisional meetings as required
- Assists the Division Chief in the recruitment of new medical staff when appropriate
- Assumes other administrative or clinical duties as requested by the Division Chief
- Diagnoses and treats patients according to established standards of best practice for the post holder’s specialty. The Consultant Physician’s clinical duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Oversees the clinical activities of the junior medical staff and is assumes responsibility for the care they provide
- Complies with all established hospital polices regarding admissions, consultations, daily patient care, surgical procedures, discharge protocols, outpatient and follow up practices
- Practices appropriate utilization of the organization’s resources
- Leads ward round; reassesses both inpatients and outpatients on a regular basis, in line with established best practice
- Accurately documents all relevant clinical information in a clear and timely fashion in accordance with established procedures.
- Regularly reviews results of all investigations and modifies treatment as required
- Liaises with other medical specialties and support services for additional input as required
- Actively participates in multi-disciplinary meetings to help plan effective, safe and holistic care for individual patients
- Ensures preparation of patients for all procedures including obtaining informed consent
- Accepts clinically appropriate referrals from the Emergency Department, primary care, other departments, specialty clinics, walk-in patients, and patients referred from other hospitals
- Participates in and ensures the provision on-call hours (on call) coverage on a rotational basis including evenings, nights, weekends and public holidays as required
- Communicates clinical information to patients and the patient’s family and friends (with the consent of the patient) in a timely manner
- Maintains a good working relationship with members of staff and promotes collaboration and a team-based approach to patient care
- Performs other clinical responsibilities as assigned
- Helps lead quality improvement within the Department
- Supports a culture of regular audit and encourages the use of audit results for improving clinical practice
- Supports the reporting, investigation, and response to untoward incidents
- Fosters a culture of learning, development and continuous improvement across the Department by
- Promoting and assisting in the instruction, guidance and supervision of junior medical staff (required)
- Facilitating the provision of essential training relevant to clinical staff in the specialty
- Showing commitment to Continued Medical Education (CME)
- Promotes and participates in clinical research and publication
- Keeps abreast of the current, relevant literature and the latest trends and technologies in the industry
