Summary

Responsible for involves anaesthetizing very small children with complex congenital heart disease for major surgical procedures. The unique nature of this patient population requires considerable expertise and in-depth knowledge of the altered physiology.

Education/Qualifications Required:

  1. Basic medical degree from recognized institution
  2. Post-qualification certification
    • Qualification Source from: North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand.  
      • USA: The American Board of Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesiology (ABP)
      • Canada: Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Certificate (FRCPC – Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesiology)
      • UK and Ireland: CCT/CCST – Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesiology
      • Australia and New Zealand: Fellowship from the Royal College (FRACP – Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesiology)
      • Western Europe: Equivalent certification to the above

Experience Post-Qualifications:

  • Minimum Three (3) years after board/equivalent certification in Ireland, UK, Australia, New Zealand and France (DES).
  • Minimum Five (5) years after board/equivalent certification in Spain, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, Norway, Austria, Netherlands, Greece and France (DIS).

License:

  • Current and in a Good Standing Medical License to practice in country of residence.
  • Current BLS/ACLS Certificate 

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides quality medical care to patients particularly in the area of Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesiology
  • Provides consultative service as requested.
  • Participates in the Department’s educational activities and training programs
  • Participates in research activities.
  • Performs administrative duties as assigned and other duties as needed.
  • Shares on-call schedule for Department of Anesthesiology as needed.
  • Follow all Hospital related policies and procedures.
  • Participates in self and others’ education, training and development, as applicable
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
