Summary

Within the mission, vision and values of King Fahad Military Medical Complex, in close collaboration with medical and other healthcare team members demonstrates advanced nursing knowledge and applies this knowledge to the assessment, diagnosis, delivery and design of nursing care and interventions in the Medical Unit. 

Education / Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
  • OR Associate Degree/Diploma or country equivalent + Bachelor’s in Nursing related field

Experience:

  • Experience from North America, Western Europe, Australia, or New Zealand is required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of clinical experience post-qualification.
  • Minimum of one (1) year in Surgical Ward or a related specialty.

License:

Current and in good Standing Nursing License/Registration (RN) to practice in country of residence

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and coordinate the daily operations of the surgical ward to ensure high standards of patient care are maintained.
  • Lead and support the nursing team in providing pre- and post-operative care, ensuring adherence to care plans, protocols, and safety measures.
  • Act as a resource and advisor to the nursing staff, providing clinical expertise and guidance in surgical care practices.
  • Conduct regular patient rounds to assess patient conditions, address concerns, and ensure care quality and patient satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to plan and deliver comprehensive patient care.
  • Manage staff assignments and shift schedules, ensuring adequate coverage to meet patient care needs.
  • Monitor patient progress and outcomes, ensuring timely interventions for complications or concerns.
  • Oversee the admission, transfer, and discharge processes to ensure smooth transitions and continuity of care.
  • Facilitate communication between patients, families, and the healthcare team, addressing any questions or concerns with empathy and clarity.
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation of patient care, treatments, and clinical observations in medical records.
  • Promote and enforce infection control practices, surgical asepsis, and patient safety measures.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and case discussions to optimize care planning and patient outcomes.
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives and participate in clinical audits to enhance surgical ward operations and care delivery.
  • Provide mentorship, training, and performance evaluations for nursing staff to foster professional growth and maintain high clinical standards.
  • Address staff performance issues promptly and escalate unresolved concerns to nursing management.
  • Monitor and manage the use of equipment, supplies, and medications, ensuring availability and cost-effectiveness.
  • Respond to emergencies or critical situations on the ward, providing leadership and clinical intervention as necessary.
  • Develop and implement ward-specific policies, procedures, and guidelines in alignment with hospital standards.
  • Advocate for patient rights, dignity, and comfort throughout their surgical care journey.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, contributing to the development of strategies for improved patient care and ward operations.
  • Maintain open communication with nursing management, providing regular updates on patient care, staff performance, and operational challenges.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, promoting teamwork and professionalism among the ward staff.
