Summary
Responsible for diagnosing and treating the respiratory system, including all parts of the windpipe and lungs. If the complaint involves the lungs or any aspect of the respiratory system, the consultant will provide comprehensive care.
Education / Qualifications Required
- Basic medical degree from a recognized institution.
- Post-qualification certification
- USA: The American Board of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery (ABPS)
- Canada: Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Certificate (FRCPS – Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery)
- UK & Ireland: GMC/CCST Specialist Register – Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
- Australia & New Zealand: Fellowship from the Royal College – Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery (FRACP)
- Western Europe: Equivalent certification to the above
Experience Required
- Minimum 3 years post-board certification for candidates from USA, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and France (DES).
- Minimum 5 years post-board certification for candidates from Spain, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, Norway, Austria, Netherlands, Greece, and France (DIS).
License & Certifications
- Current and in Good Standing Medical License to practice in the country of residence.
- BLS/ACLS Certification (Basic & Advanced Life Support).
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Managerial/Administration
- Supports, implements, and follows all hospital, departmental, and divisional initiatives, policies, and procedures.
- Helps lead and implement the organization’s performance management system, including peer review, productivity, and utilization review processes.
- Participates in the organization’s performance management system, including peer review and the productivity and utilization review processes.
- Assists with scheduling and supports the Division Chief in ensuring that adequate medical coverage is provided within the Division at all times.
- Attends divisional meetings as required.
- Assists the Division Chief in the recruitment of new medical staff when appropriate.
- Assumes other administrative or clinical duties as requested by the Division Chief.
Technical Responsibilities
- Diagnose and treat patients according to established standards of best practice for plastic and reconstructive surgery.
- Oversee the clinical activities of junior medical staff and ensure the care they provide meets the highest standards.
- Comply with all established hospital policies regarding admissions, consultations, daily patient care, surgical procedures, discharge protocols, outpatient follow-up, and practice.
- Lead ward rounds and reassess both inpatients and outpatients regularly, in line with established best practices.
- Document all relevant clinical information in a clear and timely manner.
- Regularly review results of investigations and modify treatment as necessary.
- Liaise with other medical specialties and support services for additional input.
Quality & Safety
- Help lead quality improvement within the Department.
- Support a culture of regular audit and encourage the use of audit results to improve clinical practice.
- Support the reporting, investigation, and response to untoward incidents.
Education
- Foster a culture of learning, development, and continuous improvement across the Department by:
- Promoting and assisting in the instruction, guidance, and supervision of junior medical staff.
- Facilitating the provision of essential training relevant to clinical staff in the specialty.
- Showing commitment to Continued Medical Education (CME).
- Promoting and participating in clinical research and publication.
- Keeping abreast of current, relevant literature and the latest trends and technologies in the industry.
