Technical and Research Affairs

Telepathology

Telepathology, a subspecialty of E-Health, involves the use of telecommunication technology to transmit images to distant sites for the purpose of communicating diagnostic information or for teaching. Recent advances in technology have greatly increased the feasibility of performing diagnosis by telepathology, but there are still significant obstacles to overcome.

Teleradiology

Teleradiology is offered in collaboration with the Radiology department. This service provides transmission of diagnostic quality radiographic images and rapid interpretation by our qualified radiologists.

Interactive Distance Learning Programs

Interactive distance learning programs, such as grand rounds and other special conferences, are offered through videoconferencing technologies.

Videoconferencing

This is available for patient consultation, remote diagnosis, and patient care in all clinical specialties.

Transportation

Driving

In Saudi Arabia, driving is on the right-hand side of the road. A Saudi Driver's license will be issued only to males holding a valid driver's license from their country of origin. All applicants are required to take a blood test and an eye-test. Women are not permitted to drive in Saudi Arabia.

Public Transport

There are buses operating in Riyadh but are generally for men only. Taxis are relatively cheap and plentiful and most drivers do speak English. Women should always sit in the back. There is another type of taxi, the yellow Saudi taxi, where the price is fixed by negotiation.

KFSH&RC's Transportation Services operate a shuttle bus system within the hospital compounds and its surrounding residential complexes. Scheduled bus runs are also provided to various shopping areas throughout the city.
