Clinical Nutrition – Dietitian
Summary
Provide individualized medical nutrition therapy (MNT) through a multi-disciplinary approach for
inpatients and or outpatients in SSMC
MNT is implemented according to the American Dietetic Association (ADA) Nutrition Care Process
(NCP), which provides a framework for the Clinical Dietitians to individualize care, taking into account
the patient’s needs and values and using the best scientific evidence available to make decisions.
Education/Qualifications Required:
- Bachelor’s degree of Science in Dietetics/Nutrition and Dietetics/Nutrition and Dietetics
- OR Bachelor’s degree in Health Science with a major in Nutrition and Post-graduate diploma or
master in Dietetics - Active member of a Nutrition Society or Association
Experience:
- Minimum Three (3) years of relevant experience as clinical dietitian in an acute care facility.
License:
- Current and clean medical license to practice in country/state of origin
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsibilities
- Responsible for Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) and thus assess patients using the Nutrition
Care Process (NCP) which is a systematic approach to providing high-quality nutrition care.
The NCP consists of four distinct, interrelated steps: Nutrition Assessment, Nutrition
Diagnosis, Nutrition Intervention, and Nutrition Monitoring and Evaluation. - Record all assessments and interventions of all patients as per facility policies and
procedures. - Discuss and/or refer complex cases to Senior Dietitians/Supervisor for guidance to ensure
high- quality evidence based nutrition care. - Practicing within the expressed limits of established policies and procedures and approved
competencies - Liaising with ward and food service staff concerning nutritional care plan, goals and dietary
requirements of inpatients on a daily basis. - Participate in medical rounds and provide MNT to patients starting at the highest priority
level. - Active participation in the staff development activities, discharge planning, patient education
and other patient care related activities as designated in the approved staff competency
privileges. - Contributing to the Quality Improvement Projects of the Department/hospital where
appropriate. - Communicates individual nutritional care plans to other health care providers as a member of
a health care team. - Maintains professional growth and development through completion of required
departmental competencies, participation & contribution to Continuous Professional Development activities. - Contributes to the development of Patient Education Materials.
- Assist in the preceptorship of the Dietetic interns and the undergraduate Dietetic Students.
- Contribute institutional and outside awareness campaigns, and media where appropriate and
approved.
Accountabilities
- Involved in the implementation of department policies and the annual business plan
- Ensures patient receives the evidenced based highest standards of care as per the
department policies, procedures, protocol and standards. - Practicing within the limits of expressed and privilege established by the department leaders.
- Adheres and contributes to departmental & organization Stewardship initiatives.
- Documentations of all the details of patient care in the appropriate approved formats.
- Maintain the required records of patient care activities as per the requirements of the Department and the institutional policies.
